Q&A: What kind of insulation do you put behind the walls in a shower?

Question by Jacob: What kind of insulation do you put behind the walls in a shower?
I am currently in the process of removing a tub and enclosure and installing a new tub and enclosure. I have not started the installation of the new tub and enclosure, and I need to put in insulation in the walls since most of the insulation was removed during the removal of the old tub/enclosure. What insulation is okay to use nowadays? I would like to buy something that I can purchase at a local Lowe’s or Home Depot. Thanks for the help!

Should a contractor pay for re-painting after having to re-open a wall?

Question by Keith: Should a contractor pay for re-painting after having to re-open a wall?
Our contract specifies that we are to hire our own painter. The painter came and painted when requested to do so. After this our contractor had to re-open the wall to install a shower valve that was missed during installation. The contractor now expects the painter to repaint for no additional charge, and claims this is completely “normal”.
No mural, just prime & one color of paint.

Check with a lawyer or small claims court for your area, but if you had the job finished and the contractor has to damage that work due to their mistake they should have to pay or do the repair/painting themselves. I would take them to small claims if they won’t paint or pay for it.

Installing a new shower stall?

Question by obrion: Installing a new shower stall?
I’m installing a 48″x36″ shower stall. The existing water and drain line needs moved over about 3 feet. a faucet and shower door installed as well. How long would it take to hook this up? A friend of mine wants $ 200 bucks to do it if I help. What do you think or should I just do it myself. We will be using my tools since he doesn’t have any. The unit is a base, two sides and back. My friend has worked in the plumbing field in the past. I have done this type of work, just may take me a little longer than him.

He could’nt be that good of a friend. I would just do it myself if you think you can handle it. If you need a hand in anything along the way, just ask someone else for help for a few minutes.

Got a new shower installed about6 months ago for the new trailer we are remodeling. We cant seem to get the tape/plastic off. It just tears off and the sticky stuff off the tape remains as well as the plastic. Any ideas on how to get it off without scratching the plastic shower?
I tried a hard brush and water. I can peel some of it off but then I cant tear into it anymore

What is the best adhesive to use in a shower over painted cement block?

Question by Larry Jackson: What is the best adhesive to use in a shower over painted cement block?
The block has been painted for years and is not peeling. Installing 12″ x 12″ ceramic tiles.

Best answer:

Answer by Christian
Oh no, sorry but you would want to peel the paint off or installed a concrete board on top of the brick wall. They probably used an oil base paint to act as a sealer on the brick and your tile wont stick to it for very long, especially those big 12″x12″ tiles

Question by Timm B: When my shower door opens the glass hits the corner of the vanity. How can i make sure it doesnt shatter?
I just had the door installed. Does anyone know of any padding I could put onto the glass of the door or around the edge of the vanity?

open it carefully! or you can purchase rubber stoppers… some of them screw in the wall… some of them are rubber or felt with adhesive on the back… you can purchase them at a hardware store or in a hardware/ home improvement section of a store. They also sell those corner covers to protect babies from falling and hitting their head on corners… look in hardware or the baby section

Q&A: Black Mold growing in 4 piece shower tub?

Question by steady: Black Mold growing in 4 piece shower tub?
I have noticed alot of black mold growing between the sections of my shower. How can I eliminate this problem I have been spraying the areas with bleach after every shower and the mold is still falling out of the cracks. I am guessing the only way to really solve the problem is to take the sections out and reinstall. Any other ideas? How are the tubs and tub walls installed and removed?

I too am having this same problem. I have tried many different chemicals, and nothing has worked yet. I was thinking of just taking out the silicone cocking that it between the joints, and redoing it.
