Why does the water back up into the shower when the washing machine goes into a spine cycle?

Question by Momwithaheart: Why does the water back up into the shower when the washing machine goes into a spine cycle?
The water in the shower gradually goes down on its own in approx. 5-6 mins. The bathroom and laundry room are side by side. so the plumbing pipes are probably shared. The house is 38 yrs old. Both shower and toilet have been snaked.

Sounds like the common drain is still slow. You might need to snake them again.

It’s possible that the problem is with the main sewer line. Sometimes you need to rent a commercial drain snake and get very deep in to the pipes.

It’s painfully obvious that the water is not getting away quick enough way down the discharge pipe, you have an obstruction.!
Buy an old fashioned rubber plunger and have 2 buckets of water ready to pour into the shower tray, start pouring and plunge rapidly, should dislodge the obstruction.

The sewer pipe may be full of gunk. I’m not sure how you clean those out, but I think a plumber may have to be called.

Get some of that “Liquid Plumber foaming pipe snake” and put it down the lavatory sink nearest the shower. Be sure to go by package directions. This stuff is a very powerful powder that adheres to the drain pipes and eats away at the buildup that has been forming on the pipes over the years. Try that first before calling Mr rooter and spending some big bucks. It may be that the pipes need to be replaced or roto rooted out but this stuff works well and doesn’t cost nearly as much.

Possible the washing maching on newer models pumps out water faster.you need a plumber to run a snake through the pipes.also make sure drain hose is sitting taller than washer to drain pipe.

you are in the early stage of a main drain back up time to call a sewer snake service
